Food news – Did you know that the Government recommends that every child under 5 years of age should be given vitamin supplements that contain vitamin D? For more info on this follow the link www ????? Congratulations to Caroline our nursery chef who had a little baby girl called Poppy just before Christmas, whilst Caroline is on maternity leave we were extremely lucky to tempt Jackie back from her travels. Caroline took over from jackie nearly 2 years ago now. Welcome back Jackie. If you would like to chat with Jackie about allergies etc then please do let us know.
Thank you once again to you all for the past vouchers, and please, please will you do it all again for us? On their own, the vouchers are worthless but in their thousands we are able to purchase some lovely new equipment for the nursery. inc bikes, storage sheds, wooden tables, outdoor play equipment and lots more. If you are happy to have a collection pot in work please let us know and we will make it for you. Don’t forget to ask friends, family, neighbours and even the person in front of you at the checkout.
News from the groups -Caterpillars news Dear all, I would like to introduce myself to you all as Kerrie the new room leader for Caterpillars. The girls have been showing me the ropes and I have over 12 years experience from working as a leader at Lodge Farm. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and meeting you on some of the fun events we have planned. Our learning area has been around transport and animals and we are going to be doing colours next. Music bugs has started again and every 3 weeks all the children get involved and have lots of fun. Also welcome to all of our new families to the group. These past few weeks have been meeting and settling the young babies who have all adapted well to their new environment and key people. Please do not hesitate to ask any member of staff if you have any questions. We would also like to welcome Ella who is newly qualified and recently moved to the Chippenham area and also Shirley who has many years experience. Shirley is going to job share with Shelley once she returns from her maternity leave in March. We had a great leaving do recently to wish Steph and Laura the best of luck in their new jobs. Also thank you to Barbara and Alison who have helped to cover in babies. Kerrie, Hayley, Stephie,Lucy andElla
Butterfly news – its all change for the butterflies as we say goodbye to Rachel and also Sara at the end of Feb, Sara has worked at NRN for nearly 7 years so we will be sad to see her go but she has promised to keep in touch. Di who has been doing some 121 work at nursery will takeing over some of Rachel’s hours. Barbara will cover Sara’s role until July, when Lucy from Babies will come over. In the meantime have you seen our hot air balloon, which the children have really enjoyed. It was part of our transport theme and developed the children’s imagination and cooperative play (especially as only 2 could fit in at a time!. The toddlers love being outside and we get out as much as we can, rain, shine and mud! There is a bit of a wellington boot competition at the moment as they all want to choose out of the spare box and not wear their own, good sign of independence. Jess will be returning from her maternity leave at the end of April and will job share the role of room leader. Thank you, Lucy and Team.
Ladybird news – The Ladybirds have had a successful start to the year. In early January we introduced a hair dressing salon into our home corner and some Ladybirds visited three of the local hairdressers to look at what happens there. Our thanks go to Eliana’s family who have supplied many of our resources, so that the children could use the real things to support their imaginary play (of course the electric plugs have been cut off!) Thank you once again from all of us, During January and February our activities have been based around ‘Senses’, this has given the opportunity for the children to explore preferences in individual tastes and smells. Surprisingly the children mostly picked savoury tastes to sweet tastes (unlike the staff). During one activity the children made a fruit jelly, all very carefully used knives to chop the fruit before they witnessed the jelly being made, discussing many mathematical terms to describe what was happening. When the children were asked what the word is that describes how the solid jelly disappears into the water, and given the clue of dis…. One child answered “diseasedâ€. After a trip to a local optician the children are now eagerly playing at being opticians in the home corner. Chinese New Year at the end of January gave lots of scope for fun as the children used chopsticks and prepared a Chinese Lion to take to Ivy Lane to take part in their celebrations. A great time was had by all, even though the rain tried to stop the fun!
The next term will see us looking at our favourite stories, so if any parents have a favourite that they would like to share with us, or better still, bring in to read to us your help would be welcomed by all. Yvonne, Jenna, Sarah, Jane and Kerry.
Ps did you know we have some photos of the recent train and theatre trip to Bath, we all had a great time listening to Stick Man at the egg theatre. The photos are on the middle door in the corridor.
